Some safety tips for a pleasant stay in Palermo.

Despite what you can think of, Palermo is a fairly safe city.

Obviously, as in all large cities with a tourist vocation (and not only) there are risks that tourists can meet: but not only them. Some precautions are good for citizens as well.
  1. On the roadways don't walk close to the roadside;
  2. Obviously avoid dark places in the night;
  3. if you use a backpack, don't put your values ​​in the rear compartments wearing it;
  4. make a copy of your documents and credit cards and keep your bank's phone to block credit cards if stolen;
  5. if you stay in the hotel, keep your valuables in the hotel safe, but remember to change security code set by default;
  6. remember that nowadays credit cards use contacless technology. This makes using these cards very convenient, but this sometimes simplifies thefts. In fact, especially in crowded places, as buses for examples, criminals can use RFID skimmers, a sort of scanner for this technology, to steal your money from cards; using RFID wallet and sleevs helps prevent and protect us from these crimes;
  7. use pre-paid credit card, charging it with the amount enough for a couple of days. You can easily charge it by your bank mobile app if you use this service.
  8. If you use wifi free internet connection in the city avoid to write any code or password of your most important sites, especially if they are connected to your credit cards. If you do it, change it as soon as you can. The same if you use a pc that it's not yours. Remember to change your passwords if you write them using it. Some pc can be infected with a keylogger and someone can easily steal information and passwords.
  9. Don't write codes of your credit cards in a sheet that you keep in your wallet !! If you do, save it in a different place and use a type of cryptography that only allows you to understand their meaning.
  10. If someone try to attack you or steal something to you call 112 (free call) immediately.
  11. Buy an insurance to protect you from robberies. Some insurences protect you from bag-snatchings too. Check it very well all the conditions before you buy.
  12. If you are injured and you need a doctor urgently, the call 118 (free call) and an ambulance will arrive soon.
