Getting around

How to move around Palermo?

Palermo is famous for its traffic, mess in driving and lack of parking spaces, so renting a car is necessary depending where you stay and which plans you have, whether you are going for day trips out of the city sometimes or not.

Use touristic buses so that they bring you just in front of some monuments and you can explore the city quick and easily.

Usually in front of Theatre Massimo, close to Cathedral, the City Hall and around the city you can find carriages and have a ride on them. Agree the price before the ride.

If you stay in the city centre you can easily move by bus, tram and metro. Walking is the best option however.

If you stay out of the city, in Mondello for example, I recommend you to rent a car.

Airports

Moving to/from Palermo airport "Falcone and Borsellino" by bus is easy. You can use "Prestia e Comandè" buses. Some stops are close to main Railway Station and Politeama Theatre.

Moving to/from Trapani airport "Birgi" is possible with Terravision buses. One bus stop is just behind The Politeama Theatre.

Buses

By a bus you should get 806 to reach Mondello in summertime: it connects Mondello and Palermo in Liberty Avenue.

In autumn and wintertime 2 buses: 101 at Liberty Avenue or Railway Station and 606 at Stadium.

There is a special bus, "Free Centro Storico", which covers city centre and it's free!  Its frequency of passage should be around every 11 minutes.

There is also another bus: "Free Express". It connects Parking space in Basile street to Piazza Indipendenza, very close to the Cathedral.  Its frequency of passage should be around every 10 minutes. It's good if your intent is also to tour off Palermo and you want to reach places by bus.

The parking space in Basile street is a parking lot for county and regional buses.
So you can get here your bus to explore other places near Palermo and in Sicily.

Using buses is cheap and let you get in to the real city life!
